intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Delft3D Flow and Wave error messages.

Good morning:
I´m working with DELFT 3D FLOW and WAVE for a new project in Valencia.
Firstly I only worked with DELFT 3D WAVE with good results but now I want to obtain results with FLOW and WAVE coupled

I don´t have any problem when I start the module delft3d wave stand alone, otherwise If I want to work with WAVE and FLOW coupling, this are my errors:

- the FLOW modules turns up this message: emoticon
"Qt: Untested Windows version 6.2 detected! while executing
"exec[file join$env(D3D_HOME)$env(ARCH) menu bin d3d_filsel$execext] -ext mdf - Use runid"
........
"C:\Deltares\delft3d_ohmw_4.01.00.rc.07\/win32/menu/bin/select_hyd.tcl"line53)

and later the module FLOW and WAVE computation starts and ends with this message:
"Starting Delft3d-FLOW computation . . . "
"Child killed: unknown signal".

I´ve research in this Deltares forums deals about this error and I know it is not new but I´ve kept in mind theirs recomendations without good results

My computer works with WINDOWS 8.1 and someone told me that this could be the reason.

Someone could help me?.

Thank you very much and Marry Christmas.emoticon

Hi Alejandro,

The GUI has problems with Windows 8. You can use a batch script to run your model. Example scripts (Windows and Linux) are in https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/4440/examples/03_flow-wave/

Regards,

Adri

Hi Alejandro,

Delft3D version 4.01.00 is tested on Windows 8.1, so the last precompiled Delft3D version 4.01.01.rc.03 available on http://oss.deltares.nl/web/delft3d/source-code
will run on Windows 8.1. Delft3D 4.01.01.rc.03 is een pre-relase on Delft3D 4.01.01.

Hello everyone.

Currently use Delft3D (4.01.01.rc.03)
I was simulating with FLOW module x64 (6.01.09.4295) on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (updated windows, Visual C ++ 2005/08 installed; MCR installed). Simulations have occurred successfully.

But when I installed Window Pro 8.1 x64 (windows update, Visual C ++ 2005/08 installed; MCR installed) when trying to run a simulation gives error with the following message: "Child killed: unknown signal"

I've tried to run the tutorials, FLOW-WAVE (separately and together), but the same message appears.

I used the same input files, did not change anything.

I will still try the suggestion of Adri Mourits in the post below.

If anyone has any suggestions, thank you.
Thanks,

Any notice novelty.
Thanks.

I installed the program package "All in One Runtimes" and returned to run normally.
Thanks
