intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

ERROR in double array allocation of ubrlsu

Hello,

I am trying to run a 3D model in FLOW and am receiving the following error:

"ERROR in double array allocation of ubrlsu"

I am quite perplexed because I have run similar models previously with multiple vertical layers with out incident. I have recently updated my GUI license file, and was thinking it might have something to do with this. Has anyone else received this error?

I am able to run 2D models with out any issue.

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately, the default Windows configuration is still 32bit, resulting in memory limitations. See the FAQ for workarounds.

If your calculation did run with an older Delft3D version and stops with this error message with a newer Delft3D version, your calculation was "on the edge" of some memory limitation. Probably the newer Delft3D version contains additional functionality needing additional memory that pushed the calculation over this edge.

Regards,

Adri

Thanks Adri,

I was beginning to suspect it was a memory issue. The grid file is quite large. I was beginning to break apart and run as a ddbound.

Thanks!
