D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

Dear all,

I am not able to run neumann boundaries with other boundary types such as astronomic or harmonic boundaries in linux OS parallel. I tried this in version4,5 and 6 of source code. However, the same model runs in single processor in Linux OS. Also, neumann boundaries with water level time series boundary type runs in Linux parallel.Could anyone please confirm whether Delft3D can actually run in parallel with neumann and astronomic or harmonic boundaries?

Hi Balaji,

As far as I know, it should work.

There were some problems in the past with boundary type combinations when running in parallel; it's rather sensitive. But these problems should be solved.

Can you zip and attach your model to a post on this forum? It would be great if you can simplify your model first (while still showing the problem).

Hi Balaji,

With 2 partitions it runs fine. With 4 partitions it crashes after some simulation time because the calculation becomes unstable. With 4 partitions it runs fine if you reduce the timestep (I tried with 0.1 minute). It seems that this model is on the edge of being stable. When running in parallel there will be some accuracy loss on the partition boundaries. In this model that accuracy loss is enough to make it unstable.

I did not look into the results itself.
