intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Problem installing compiled version of delft3d

Youngling Posts: 6 Join Date: 1/2/15 Recent Posts
I have downloaded the executables and was installing as per the installation manual. While launching d3d_menu.bat, i got a error message saying: d3d_menu.exe has stopped working: a problem caused the program to stop working correctly (attached screenshot). windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
How can I proceed further in the installation.

Apologies for asking questions on installation here.

Dear Satya,

Probably you do not have a license file. Please contact our support desk for a license file (delft3d.support@deltares.nl).

Compiling the precompiled delft3d

Thanks Jan,

Indeed it was because of the license file. It got resolved. Thanks for your help.

I have started working on the examples and to run the flow or wave models, compile again even though it is a pre compiled version.

The archived webinar to compile delft3d on windows gives prerequisites like the Microsoft Visual studio 2008//10 and Intel Fortran compiler 11.0 or higher. These Licenced versions of these are not available in market. However, i did install Intel parallel studio 2015 and MS visual studio 2010. To be frank, its giving me difficult time compiling. Could you pls help what is the way forward? Many Thanks.

Hi Jan,

There is an update to my previous post.

I could compile with Intel parallel studio 2015 and MS visual studio 2010. However, the result is:
Build: 21 succeeded, 49 failed, 8 up-to-date, 0 skipped

still trying to sort and fix the failed ones.

regards,
Satya

I'm running into the same problem, however, I did run the license manager (DS_Flex) with the license file provided.

Are there any other reasons that can cause this crash to happen?

I noticed that the installation documentation talks about "vcredist_x86 (2010).exe", but this file is currently (Aug 2015) not included in the download folder for the precompiled GUI. Is that file still required? In any case that shouldn't be the problem since I have VS C++ installed on my system.

Thanks, Chris

Never mind. When I started the bat file with a double-click instead of running it in a DOS window it seemed to work .... Chris
