intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

D-Part module status

I read a few posts here saying this module will be in public domain. What is the latest status? Are the PART sources included in D-WAQ now? Also I did not see the button "Part" in the requested GUI (version 4.01.01.rc.03).

Do you have a timeline for its release if not already? Thanks

Hi Hailiang,

The code of PART has been included in the opensource since the end of last year, with a few things last things due to compatibility with the GFORTRAN compilers fixed at the beginning of this year. But we forgot to update the menu, where we removed the access to PART because, until now, you could only run it with a license.

Attached is a file with the menu including PART. You can place this in your c:\Program Files (x86)\Deltares\Delft3D 4.xxxx\win32\menu\default\ directory (backup your current d3d_menu.xml first!). Afterwards you have to run substitute_delft3d_env.bat again, and you should have access to the PART user interface. Of course you have to build a recent (tagged) version of Delft3D of this year to have a delpar.exe to run the model.

We will include the correct d3d_menu*.xml files in the next release. Thanks for pointing this out!

Hi Michel,

I have done exactly what you said. The button to access the PART user interface has come up with the d3d_menu that you provided and I downloaded a tagged version of DELFT3D with the delpar executable file. However, when I use the GUI clicking on the button Part and then Define Input, an error message says that the file part_gui.exe is not found. Did you miss to say something on your post? I believe that this part_gui.exe is also needed to define the input for the Part module as found for the other Delft3D modules.

Hope to solve this question soon! emoticon

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Davi

Hi, I will also be using the PART module and I wonder if you have resolved this issue yet?
If so, can you offer advice on how to have an operational PART button on the GUI?

Also, can you please tell me which tagged version you compiled that includes the PART module?

Thanks!

Hello Michel,

I did what you posted and the PART button appeared on the GUI. Although, I could not create an input part file, because the latest available version of the GUI (delft3d_ohmw_4.01.01.rc.03) didnt come with the folder part and the required file part_gui.exe.

Is there any other version that comes with the folder *../win32/part/ and the part_gui.exe?

Thanks in advance,

Rafael

Hi All,

I now realise that that the program was removed from the setup too. Attached is the content of the part/bin folder that contains the part_gui.exe. It should be placed in the folder c:\Program Files (x86)\Deltares\Delft3D 4.xx.xx\win32, and end up in a location like c:\Program Files (x86)\Deltares\Delft3D 4.xx.xx\win32\part\bin\. I will notify the person responsible for the menu installation so it will be fixed in the next setup.
