intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.
The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

We have launched a new website (still under construction so expect continuous improvements) and a new forum dedicated to Delft3D Flexible Mesh.

Where I can find the <Install-Shield.exe>?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to install delft3D in Windows and I’m having some difficulties, even in the early stages of the installation. As I’m new in that software and I’m not in contact with someone else with experience, I thought I ‘d better ask for help in this forum.

I became a user and asked for the files to install the software. They’ve sent me a link, to download the following files:
• License_agreement_Delft3D_ohmw_4.01.01.rc.03
• install_ohmw_4.01.01.rc.03
• DS_FLEX_User_Manual
• delft3d_ohmw_4.01.01.rc.03 (zip)
• MCR_R2013b_win32_installer
According to the first step of the installation Manual (pg5), I need the <Install-Shield.exe> to install the Delft3D, but I couldn’t find this file. Anyone know where I can download or find it?

You are talking about 2 different lines. What you download is the GUI in line with the open source. It is free to use, but you have to compile the code, connect the compiled exes to the GUI. This you have to do by yourself.

The other line is the line with Deltares Software package, which is not free. Once you get the Software package, you may follow the Installation Manual. Pls contact for more details.
