DELWAQ is the engine of the D-Water Quality and D-Ecology programmes of the Delft3D suite. It is based on a rich library from which relevant substances and processes can be selected to quickly put water and sediment quality models together.

The processes library covers many aspects of water quality and ecology, from basic tracers, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, organic matter, inorganic suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and organic micro-pollutants, to complex algae and macrophyte dynamics. High performance solvers enable the simulation of long periods, often required to capture the full cycles of the processes being modelled.

The finite volume approach underlying DELWAQ allows it to be coupled to both the structured grid hydrodynamics of the current Delft3D-FLOW engine and the upcoming D-Flow Flexible Mesh engine (1D-2D-3D) of the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (or even other models such as TELEMAC).

Hi to all,

I’m working on a study regarding tidal energy, and part of my study is to determine the potential peak month for the year 2017, and I intend to do this by determining the max monthly average tidal range on a certain observation point/tidal station. I have used Delft3D Dashboard/Delft3D Flow for the simulation, and I got several output files like tekal, component, and trihdat files for the tidal constituents. The tidal series itself, can be seen in the image below:

My problem is, I want to be able to determine the high and low water level (height), but it would be so time-consuming if I do that manually in MS excel (my data is for 1 yr, and there are approx. 2 high and low tides per day, with tidal heights at every 30 minutes), so I’d like to use the HILOW functionality of Delft3D-TIDE.

From what I understand from the Delft3D-TIDE manual, I need to first prepare analysis/predict input files (.ina/.inp) for HILOW, and preparing that by hand is a bit confusing. I tried using QUICKPLOT to see if I can produce a .ina/.inp file from my tidal simulation in FLOW, but I can only save my data sets into CSV/mat/tekal file types. So I would like to ask what external program or even tools in the delft3D suite can be used to generate the tidal input files .ina/.inp, because it’s a bit confusing/complicated to prepare it manually. I think there must be some external program that produces the .ina/.inp files but I have not seen it being mentioned in the TIDE manual. Any tips/advice is much appreciated.

Delft3D-FLOW can do this for you. This function is called "Fourier analysis", see section "A.2.30 Fourier analysis" in the manual.
