intro story DELWAQ

DELWAQ

DELWAQ is the engine of the D-Water Quality and D-Ecology programmes of the Delft3D suite. It is based on a rich library from which relevant substances and processes can be selected to quickly put water and sediment quality models together.

The processes library covers many aspects of water quality and ecology, from basic tracers, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, organic matter, inorganic suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and organic micro-pollutants, to complex algae and macrophyte dynamics. High performance solvers enable the simulation of long periods, often required to capture the full cycles of the processes being modelled.

The finite volume approach underlying DELWAQ allows it to be coupled to both the structured grid hydrodynamics of the current Delft3D-FLOW engine and the upcoming D-Flow Flexible Mesh engine (1D-2D-3D) of the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (or even other models such as TELEMAC).

'DELWAQ in open source' is our invitation to all leading experts to collaborate in further development and research in the field of water quality, ecology and morphology using Delft3D. Feel free to post your DELWAQ related questions or comments in this dedicated forum space. If you are new to DELWAQ, the tutorial (in the user manual) is a good place to start. A list of DELWAQ related publications is available here.

Beginner Error! Cannot generate good results...

Hi! I was able to run my model with 0 errors, however there are a lot of program issues/warnings (see image attached). It's as if the model was not able to detect the wet area of the river flow?

Here are the files that I used:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=14THkRfXWxwhgnDSXVKEqVVHsmryV2ndq

My grid's orthogonality is less than 0.04 and smoothness is within limits.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,

Check the coordinate system of the grid. It is really small. The length of the grid in the longitudinal direction is just 0.08 m. I don't think this is a good idea to investigate millimeter scale phenomena using Delft3D.

Regards,

Dmitry

Hi Dmitry,

Thanks for this. I would like to know on how did you get the value of 0.08m? And also, do you have an idea on how to increase my grid size.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Rgfgrid has a functionality to measure distance in your local coordinate system. See picture attached. Well, for the time being, except for the grid coordinate system units, which have to be revised, nothing has come to my mind.

Regards,

Dmitry

I adjusted the scale of my grid. See photo below. Instead of the previous length, it is now at 3.390m. As seen, my issue is the map retains the same scale and cannot proportionately adjust to the increased scale factor.
