DELWAQ is the engine of the D-Water Quality and D-Ecology programmes of the Delft3D suite. It is based on a rich library from which relevant substances and processes can be selected to quickly put water and sediment quality models together.

The processes library covers many aspects of water quality and ecology, from basic tracers, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, organic matter, inorganic suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and organic micro-pollutants, to complex algae and macrophyte dynamics. High performance solvers enable the simulation of long periods, often required to capture the full cycles of the processes being modelled.

The finite volume approach underlying DELWAQ allows it to be coupled to both the structured grid hydrodynamics of the current Delft3D-FLOW engine and the upcoming D-Flow Flexible Mesh engine (1D-2D-3D) of the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (or even other models such as TELEMAC).

How to use Culvert type 'u' properly

Dear Delft user community,
I am trying to implement a Culvert in a simple Delft3d-Flow model and then will modify to represent a water system management as a pump in ocean dike. The dike is enclosed with thin walls and the intake and outlet of a pump are in the adjacent cells, one of the cells on outside the thin walls. Then, the pump will flow out one way through the thin walls as a response to differences in water levels so I was going to try and use type u culvert. I do not have much experience in compiling and manipulating Fortran codes, so I have a few questions about that and in the end, I will give the relevant files.

1.     In the manual (Section B.3.4.6) is mentioned that the key CulvertFile can optionally be used to point to an input file with parameter settings for the user routine CulvertFunction. Furthermore, in the manual, the example is culvert_params.txt. I was a bit unclear about this key (CulvertFile) and the contents of this file. Then, I found in the last section B.3.8 that mentioned the last routine would require an input file containing 1 1.0 5.0. Does anyone know about that?

2.     Later, I was trying to run the Delft-3d model use type-u Culvert like in the manual and use the original file of plugin_culvert.dll (/Delft3D 4.04.01/x64/dflow2d3d/bin). When I try to run the model use file.mdf, I encountered my problem run to error. Can someone enlighten me and brief me the solution on what might be a cause of this? I tried the same simulation with a ‘c’ and ‘d’ culvert and they run without errors. The tri-diag files is shown below.
