DELWAQ

DELWAQ is the engine of the D-Water Quality and D-Ecology programmes of the Delft3D suite. It is based on a rich library from which relevant substances and processes can be selected to quickly put water and sediment quality models together.

The processes library covers many aspects of water quality and ecology, from basic tracers, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, organic matter, inorganic suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and organic micro-pollutants, to complex algae and macrophyte dynamics. High performance solvers enable the simulation of long periods, often required to capture the full cycles of the processes being modelled.

The finite volume approach underlying DELWAQ allows it to be coupled to both the structured grid hydrodynamics of the current Delft3D-FLOW engine and the upcoming D-Flow Flexible Mesh engine (1D-2D-3D) of the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (or even other models such as TELEMAC).

Hi,

Is there a limit for the size of coupling files that can be read by Delwaq?

I have a water quality simulation of 1 month, with FLOW velocities etc taken from a 3D FLOW model of roughly 200*300 and 5 sigma layers. COM output is every 20 minutes.

I don't have an issue with reading in the COM file using .hyd, but when I try and read in the bed shear stresses output from the flow model, I get a 'grids do not fit' error message.

If I produce coupling files for just two weeks from the same FLOW model and COM file, I don't have an issue.

Are there any work around for this?

Hi Ben,

This looks like an old problem with WAQ-GUI thath cannot handle binary files bigger then 2 Gb. This is solved in recent version but I do not know which one you use. A work around is to import the smaller file in the GUI and after saving change in the <runid>.inp file the filename for the *.tau file to the big file.

The computational core of delwaq can handle files of any size.

That was very useful advice. Yes, I am using an older version of the Delwaq GUI.

I shall try to modify in the .inp file directly, as suggested.
