intro story DELWAQ

DELWAQ

DELWAQ is the engine of the D-Water Quality and D-Ecology programmes of the Delft3D suite. It is based on a rich library from which relevant substances and processes can be selected to quickly put water and sediment quality models together.

The processes library covers many aspects of water quality and ecology, from basic tracers, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, organic matter, inorganic suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and organic micro-pollutants, to complex algae and macrophyte dynamics. High performance solvers enable the simulation of long periods, often required to capture the full cycles of the processes being modelled.

The finite volume approach underlying DELWAQ allows it to be coupled to both the structured grid hydrodynamics of the current Delft3D-FLOW engine and the upcoming D-Flow Flexible Mesh engine (1D-2D-3D) of the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (or even other models such as TELEMAC).

'DELWAQ in open source' is our invitation to all leading experts to collaborate in further development and research in the field of water quality, ecology and morphology using Delft3D. Feel free to post your DELWAQ related questions or comments in this dedicated forum space. If you are new to DELWAQ, the tutorial (in the user manual) is a good place to start. A list of DELWAQ related publications is available here.

ECO run problem

Hi everyone,

I have been using the ECO module for a while with tag3185. I decided to upgrade to tag 4440. I have compiled it with gcc+mpich twice to be sure.
I have a problem running the ECO compartment. The examples provided all work fine. However when invoking ECO with

exedir=$currentdir/../../bin/lnx/waq/bin
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$exedir:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
procfile=$currentdir/../../bin/lnx/waq/default/proc_def
ecofile=$currentdir/../../bin/lnx/waq/default/bloom.spe

$exedir/delwaq1 $argfile -eco $ecofile -p "$procfile"

I get this error

Number of WARNINGS            :     2
Number of ERRORS during input :     0

Normal end

Delwaq1 did run without errors.

Parallel processing with   1 processor(s)

  SIMULATION STARTED

  INTEGRATION ROUTINE =          22
At line 106 of file blinpu.f (unit = 59, file = 'bloominp.d09')
Fortran runtime error: End of file

Delwaq2 did not run correctly.

I am guessing spmething went wrong with the compilation. Has anyone encountered such an issue?

Thanks
Veli

Hi Veli,

Just to be sure, did you update the bloominp.d09 file as well?

Hi Christophe,

I did a complete new subversion download to a different disk. What I have is what was provided with the tag 4440.

It looks like bloominp.d09 is not found. Try copying it from the default folder to your simulation folder. Does that help?

Ok. This is what happened. At each run the model creates "bloominp.*" files at the same directory. They are all empty. So I removed them and copied the original bloominp.d09 from the default directory as you suggested. The simulation started without any issues. For now the results look ok. It will take sometime to finish. I will post back if I encounter any issues.

Guess this solved the trick !!
Thanks a lot Christophe.
