intro story DELWAQ


DELWAQ is the engine of the D-Water Quality and D-Ecology programmes of the Delft3D suite. It is based on a rich library from which relevant substances and processes can be selected to quickly put water and sediment quality models together.

The processes library covers many aspects of water quality and ecology, from basic tracers, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, organic matter, inorganic suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and organic micro-pollutants, to complex algae and macrophyte dynamics. High performance solvers enable the simulation of long periods, often required to capture the full cycles of the processes being modelled.

The finite volume approach underlying DELWAQ allows it to be coupled to both the structured grid hydrodynamics of the current Delft3D-FLOW engine and the upcoming D-Flow Flexible Mesh engine (1D-2D-3D) of the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (or even other models such as TELEMAC).

i don't understand that the maening of the 'discharge' in waq modelling.

when i try to test the waq modelling using the waq tutorial, the set of waq tutorial is 'friesian_tidal_inlet', there are difference 'discharge rate' between the flow input and waq input.
the value of discharge in flow input is '3 cms' and the value of discharge of waq is '10 cms'. So, is there special reason for the difference between the flow and waq?
and, could you tell us references data for related waq tutorial model set such as papers or reports el al.

I don't think there a a particular reason for the difference in values. It is is just a show case without any real background. I guess that the Delwaq example is based on an older version of the FLOW example, and the FLOW example was changed later on. There are no publications about this simple example.
