Happy and prosperous 2019!

Thank you for being a member of the Delft3D open source community! We would like to take this opportunity to report on what we have accomplished together in the past year and the exciting things we can look forward to in 2019.

Your support is the key to success and we always have our members’ value in mind.

2018 was a very successful year. We have made significant improvement in our Delft3D product development and our online services. The following outlines a few of our major achievements:

  • The open source membership has exceeded 20.000 from more than 200 countries. https://oss.deltares.nl is truly a global online platform to lead the Delft3D developments.
  • The Delft Software Days - Edition 2018 and the Deltares Software Days South-East Asia - Edition 2018 were successfully held in Delft, The Netherlands (DSD-INT 2018) and in Yogyakarta, Indonesia (DSD-SEA 2018). DSD-INT 2018 was a major success with 600+ participants from more than 40 countries. They were representing 230+ organizations. The 12-day programme included the Data Science Symposium, the annual International User Days of Delft-FEWS, XBeach and iMOD and the 4-day Delft3D User Days. In addition to this, there was an impressive number of Delft3D courses, workshops and trainings.
  • Phil Shepperd of Coastal Sciences Ltd. (UK) won the Delft3D Open Source Award 2018, for being most active community member by posting discussion forum posts and comments in the Delft3D Open Source community and related social media groups.
  • One of our goals was to launch the Delft3D Flexible Mesh including the D-Morphology module (2D), the D-Waves module (2D), using SWAN engine, the D-Water Quality module (2D), using DELWAQ engine, and the D-Real Time Control module, for our beta testing community. We are happy to inform you that on Wednesday 14 November, the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite 2019 was launched in a special festive celebration with a sparkling toast. With this release, we have also added three new Academy courses to our portfolio: Delft3D Flexible Mesh - River Modelling, Delft3D Flexible Mesh - Coastal Morphodynamic Modelling and SWAN - Wave Modelling.

As for 2019, we look forward to further enhancement of our strategic growth. Below are a few examples:

  • Launching the fully validated and supported Delft3D FM 2019 release on 29 January 2019. This General Availability (GA) release includes the D-Morphology module (2D), the D-Waves module (2D), the D-Water Quality module (2D) and the D-Real Time Control module. This is our next step towards providing a unique 1D/2D/3D modelling suite for integral water solutions!
  • Seeking more strategic Delft3D Partners in Development to increase impact in academia and practitioners and to further speed up the software developments.
  • Improving our IT platform to better support our community, our conferences, webinars, and other activities.
  • Organizing the North American Deltares Software Days in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 11 – 15 March 2019, the Deltares Software Days (DSD-NL 2019) for Dutch software users from 18 - 21 June 2019, and the next international Delft Software Days (DSD-INT 2019), in Delft from 4 – 15 November 2019. There are also numerous regional chapter events. We would like to encourage all of you to attend a 2019 event.

The above items are examples and we are committed to finding the best ways to do business with you. Your support is essential for value co-creation. We look forward to another excellent year of serving you and the global Delft3D open source community. We wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year!
