General Coliform Model references

Hi,
I am writing a paper on the dispersion of E.Coli bacteria in nearshore waters using General Coliform Model (B2 section in WAQ User Manual).
I would need some references about the values of the different parameters used in the model. I have seen that the model utilizes the Mancini equation but at the same time I have noted that there are some discrepancies on values of "chloride related mortality (KCl)" and on those of sunlight radiation (fraction of UV-radiation and extinction of UV-radiation).
Where have you taken the values reported in the B2 section?
Thank you in advance

Simone

Hi Simone,

I hope you can wait for the return of one of our experts from holiday next week.

Just to be sure that we are looking for the same thing, you refer to section B2, but in what manual is that? The manuals I checked only have numerical indications.

Regards,

Arjen

Hi Arjen,
I refer to Delft3D WAQ - User Manual, you can find the argument at the start of Appendix B (259-262).
Thank you

Hi,
since I am applying the model in a semi enclosed area (delimited by artificial barriers), I would to know if someone has calculated the flushing time
or the residence time using the simulation results of the General Coliform Model
Thanks

Hi Simone,

The examples in the manual have been developed quite some time ago, but there is a reference at the end of the whole appendix for section B2:

Thomann, R. V. and J. A. Mueller, 1987. Principles of Surface Water Quality Modelling and Control. Harper & Row publishers, New York. xvii, 4, 221, 366, 377

I don't have that book at hand, but since it sounds like a reference book I guess the values were taken from there.

Hi Michel,
thank you for the information. To estimate flushing time I am trying to simulate the E.Coli dispersion with Delft3d-PART
using the decay rate calculated with Delft3d-WAQ.
When I try to run the model this message appear:

NOQ1 ne NMAX*MMAX*LAYT, did you aggregate??
Aggregation is not allowed in DELPAR

What is the problem?

Since Delft3d-PART is not in the GUI downloadable from your website, I am using a old licensed version of Delft3d (3.28.04).

Any suggestions?

thank you in advance

Simone

P.S. I send you the input file and the log file

Does someone understand my problem and can help me to resolve it?
Do you need another files of the my DELFT3D-PART simulation?
Let me know as soon as possible
Thank you

Hi Simone,

Did you aggregate the hydrodynamic results?

Hi Simone,

Aggregation is not supported in PART, and support for 'active only' conversion of hydrodynamics was only build in recently, and available in the latest 4.01.00 release of Delft3D. If you want to use your older version of PART, you should use the 'No aggregation option in the coupling.

best regards,
Michel

Hi Michel,
thank you for your help. I have used no aggregation option in my simulation and now the previous problem has been
resolved but, unfortunately, another problem occurs:

Deepest cel not found in rdlgri: error

The diagnosis file reports a closure error in different itime like this:

WAQ input written at itime 60. Closure error: 0.451175E+00, 0.342477E-06( 138415): Total[m3], Max.Rel.(segment)
Maximum timestep: 621.06 s in computational element: 30069
Maximum timestep whole simulation: 621.06

What the problem is it this time?
Any suggestion is welcome

I've try to resolve my problem changing unsuccessfully the time step of the simulation.
Could someone tell me where am I wrong?
Since I have a deadline the next month for submit my research, could you know
something as soon as possible?

Thank you very much

Hi Simone,

It seems that this is a limitation of an older version of PART. I'm happy to inform you that we are working on getting PART in open source before the end of the year. In the mean time, to support you the best we can, we'll contact you shortly to solve your issue.
