Hi all:

I saw in the manual that we can create 3D polygons in GEN file. I want to know if we can create 3D lines. And in the manual, i think it means the Z value should be the same. But i want to show the sewer system in 3D, and they are lines. I tried to do it, but it shows "no active cells found in current GEN-files". I will show you a small part of my GEN-file and DAT file.

Yes you can, make sure you load in the GEN file in the OVERLAY tab and not in the MAP tab of the iMOD Manager. Your GEN file need to be adapted a bit as iMOD will try to create a 3d polygon out of the GEN file, so your GEN file should look like:

This should work. I put your request on our list of future developments so this trick will not be necessary in future releases.

A small addition to me previous email is that in the current iMOD version you need to make sure that the number of coordinates of a line is more than 5 in order to let this work. So, it could work like this:

If the line is less than 5, just repeat the last coordinate to make it at leat 6 coordinates. In the coming release of iMOD this is taken care off nicely. Thanks for your request.

Hi Hongyang,

I am not sure if it is still relevant, but if you still look for a way to conveniently display line features in 3D using iMOD, you could consider the IFF-format. You can easily display lines in different colours as well. The number of columns is expandable if you need more, but make sure that the PARTICLE_NUMBER will be the attribute that is used to determine whether a new line need to be started. On default iMOD uses the 3,4 and 5th column for plotting the line, but the following columns can be used to display different features.
