Deltares, The Netherlands, and the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee organized a post-conference workshop on “Groundwater Modelling using iMOD for the Ganga basin”.
Frans Roelofsen, hydrogeologist and iMOD trainer at Deltares, gave the iMOD workshop together with his colleages Kees Bons and Esther van Baaren.
A group of more than 60 (!) participants from all over India and from different organisations attended the workshop.
The purpose of this workshop was to provide an introduction to the Graphical User Interface iMOD as well as an introduction to the Ganga Groundwater Model.
This model is developed in iMOD over the last 2 years as part of the integrated River Basin Model for the Ganga basin (see also http://annualreport2015.deltares.nl/freshwater-scarcity/ganges/).
To achieve this, the workshop program contained a combination of plenary- and hands-on sessions.
A tutorial guided the participant step-by-step in viewing and editing the Ganga model input, do groundwater flow calculations and display the results.
At the end of this workshop, participants:
- have a running version of iMOD on their laptop,
- understand the main components of the Ganga model,
- have basic skills in operating iMOD,
- ...and have sufficient information on how to continue using iMOD after the workshop.
