Hello,

 

I'm working on creating a simple groundwater model but I'm struggling to run the model due to an error in the model extents. When trying to run the model I get an error message and the run_log.txt file (attached as run_log_1.txt ) states that the simulation window is outside the model domain even though they are identical, see below.

 

I've also tried to "Draw Simulation Area of Interest" in the model dimensions tab and made the model dimensions smaller than the IDF but then I get a new error message and I can't see the error in the log file (attached as run_log_2.txt). Is it still the model extents that causing the error in this case? Is there some other issue with the run file which is causing the error?

Hi Jenny,

I recommend to use "nice" coordinates, although this model should have worked with v4.3 as well. I'm wondering why it fails. You might want to send me the files than O can have a close look.

Hi Jenny,

 

I ran your model without the error message (I used v4.3 for iMOD as well as for iMODFLOW). I load in the PRJ file in the iMOD ProjectManager and selected the NAM-file (MF2005) option and ran it. I got a issue with your WEL file as you cannot use associated TXT files in a IPF file in combination with a STEADY-STATE model, to I've changed it into this:

Than it ran but did not converge as you don't have any boundary conditions (a well is a boundary condition but does not have any reference level). Withou such a boundary condition the model cannot be solved for a steady-state model. So, a) specify at least a single CONSTANT-HEAD-BOUNDARY or b) add a RIV,DRN,GHB boundary condition.

I saw that you had "nice" coordinates now.

Thank you for your reply it was very helpful. I have now edited the IPF file and added a constant head boundary and the model runs.

 

Another issue I've run into is that when looking at the resultant head the output in 3D it extends to -1800m, see below, even though the well is set to end at -20m. Why does this happen and how can I fix it?
