bug message reminder

When adressing a model crash or bug, please remember to include an entire model setup in your post that reproduces the crash or exposes the bug. Also add the XBlog.txt file. This is necessary information for people that are trying to help you. Including your model setup can be achieved by adding the zipped run directory (excluding output) as an attachment to the post.

Trouble when running a model

Hello everyone,

I am new using XBeach and I have some problems that I dont really know how to solve. I am using the 2015-10-22_XBeach_v1.22.4867_Kingsday_x64_netcdf_MPI version, and also I downloaded the netcdf_x64 and the mpich2-1.4.1p1-win-x86-64.

I am working with the files on the example ┬┤1953 storm surge┬┤ from the website, to see how it works. Apparently, I can perfectly read the xbeach structure from the params.txt file using the oet functions and I can also run it using a batchfile, but when I want to view the outputs of the run model the .dat files created are empty and also an error message appears telling me that Error using xb_read_dims (line 187)
directory or file "D:\Desktop\XBeach\1953_stormsurge\xb_20161024131924\params.txt" does
not exist
, but it does.

It seems that I can run it, because there is no error appearing, but no proper outputs are created. It creates .dat files that are empty, and in case the outputs are .nc format, directly they are not created. I have done several things, from uninstalling and installing again matlab, to creating different batchfiles, changing directory names, etc. but none of those things seems to be working.

I am a bit frustrated, its been too long trying to solve this, and probably it is a stupid thing that Im not getting. I would very much appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this? Thank you in advance.

This is what I am doing:

>> xb = xb_read_input

xb =

date: '24-Oct-2016 13:19:20'
function: 'xb_read_input'
type: 'input'
file: 'D:\Desktop\XBeach\1953_stormsurge\params.txt'
data: [1x58 struct]

>> xbr = xb_run(xb);

come from a build server. Currently, the default XBeach build server is out of order.

Hi Lara,

We have been having a few messages from people with similar errors. It seems related to the Matlab toolbox rather than XBeach. The tutorials you are referring to are pretty much outdated and we have started the process of renewing them.

That may still take a few weeks/months so for now I would recommend to use the manual (http://oss.deltares.nl/documents/48999/49476/XBeach_manual_Kingsday.pdf) for information/inspiration and try to set up a simple simulation for your case, rather than trying to reproduce the tutorials.

Apologies for the confusion.

Cheers,
Arnold
